Research Methods & Templates

Maintained by Multiple maintainers

Free, reusable research artefacts: interview guides, usability test plans, consent forms, survey banks, and synthesis boards.

Why it matters

Most research quality problems are protocol problems. A validated template prevents leading questions, missing consent, and unstructured synthesis.

Key principles

  1. Write the research question before the method; the method follows from what a decision actually requires.
  2. Always capture informed consent and a recording policy in writing - non-negotiable in regulated and clinical work.
  3. Pilot every guide with one participant before the real sessions; you will rewrite at least two questions.
  4. Separate observation from interpretation during synthesis, or your findings become your assumptions.
  5. Five participants surfaces most usability problems in a single homogeneous group; add a group, not more people, for a second segment.
